What are the minimum qualifications to apply?

You must be at least 21 years old to apply for Deputy and Corrections Officer roles. For Dispatcher roles, applicants must be 18 years or older.

Do I need previous law enforcement experience?

No. Entry-level positions are open to those with no experience. We provide full training through our certified academy.

Is there a physical test for all positions?

Only Deputy and Corrections Officer applicants must pass a physical fitness test. Dispatchers are not required to complete one.

What benefits are included with the job?

All roles include health insurance, paid time off, and retirement plans. Sworn officers also receive equipment stipends and training perks

Can I apply if I live outside Cooper County?

Yes. We welcome applicants from across Missouri and neighboring counties. However, relocation may be required for certain roles.

How long does the hiring process take?

The full process can take 4–8 weeks, depending on testing and background check timing. You’ll be updated at each stage.

Is there an age limit for applying?

There is no upper age limit, as long as you're physically fit and meet qualifications. Many applicants start law enforcement careers later in life.

What kind of training will I receive?

Deputies attend a state-approved academy with hands-on instruction. Corrections and Dispatch staff receive on-the-job and classroom training.
